Take a break from the city: Prague's green oases in Stromovka, Riegerovy sady and more

Prague is home to several stunning parks and gardens, each with its own unique character and history. From the manicured Baroque terraces of Vrtbovské gardens to the expansive greenery of Stromovka, visitors can enjoy a variety of outdoor spaces throughout the city.

1) Stromovka park

Royal deer - park better known as the Stromovka is a largest park in Prague. It is an oasis of peace and relaxation, an island of greenery in the midst of a noisy metropolis. Most notably, the central part has seen quite a transformation, bringing four kilometres of renovated paths, new ponds, footbridges and piers, several playgrounds, picnic sites and outdoor fitness installations. Additional updates, in the form of new lighting, benches and waste bins, were due recently. Certainly worth a mention are the unconventional children’s playground elements

2) Riegern gardens

This park, over a century old, shelters intimate nooks and places with wooded areas, open grassy areas and unusual vistas of the city. The park offers a view of Prague Castle, Lesser Town and the tracks of the main railway station.

3) Parukářka park

If you climb to the top, you’ll be rewarded with a beautiful view of Prague. At Parukářka Park, you’ll find three children’s playgrounds, and parents can grab a snack at the nearby legendary underground pub or at the original bar with a garden in front of the entrance to the bomb shelter, where an 11 m high climbing wall was built in the stairwell. You’ll also find the Cold War Museum here.

4) Grébovka park

Grébovka is a mixed Neo-Renaissance and Neo-Romantic park in Prague 2, Vinohrady. The historical vineyard “Grébovka” is what remains of the extensive vineyards founded by Charles IV in the 14th century, at which time they covered the entirety of today’s Havlíčkovy sady park. Nowadays we find ourselves enjoying the distinctive blend of a city park and the memorable token remnant of former vineyards.

5) Vojan gardens

The garden is considered the oldest partially preserved garden in Prague. Its melancholy seems to have survived from the Middle Ages, when it was founded as a monastery garden. There are three baroque chapels in the gardens.

6) Valdštejnská garden

Vrtba Garden is a beautiful Baroque garden located in the heart of Prague's Lesser Town. The garden features intricate terraces, ornate sculptures, and stunning views of the city.

It's a perfect spot to escape the crowds and enjoy a peaceful moment surrounded by the beauty of nature and art.
